Mr. Kennedy Shenberg, M.S.W., LCPC is a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor (LCPC) in Illinois. He obtained his Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) Degree in Psychology and English from Southern Illinois University and went on to earn two Masters Degree – one in Clinical Counseling from National Louis University in 2002 and another in Social Work from Loyola University in 2007. Kennedy has worked in wide variety of capacities over his career. Kenndy has served as a Child Abuse Investigations Supervisor for the Department of Child and Family Services, the State of Illinois, for 10 years. He also served as a Senior Therapist for the St. Vincent Program at Maryville Academy in Des Plaines from 2012-2016. He has also served as an Adjunct Professor at the Adler School of Professional Psychology. Kennedy specializes in the treatment of abuse, neglect, child and adolescent populations, alternative relationships, LGBTQ issues, and has specialized training in Jungian Dream Analysis and psychodynamic psychotherapy. Kennedy is devoted to training the next generation of psychotherapists and has served as a clinical supervisor for many students working on the LCPC Externships.
Kennedy’s approach to therapeutic intervention is eclectic. He believes in actively engaging his clients in the change process and strives to be nonjudgmental, honest, and open. He often mixes in humor to help his clients express themselves. He prefers Adlerian concepts but can conceptualize for a variety of viewpoints including using relational, behavioral, cognitive, psychodynamic, and Maslow theory. He also enjoys using different modalities in helping his clients including movement, exercise, art, and games to assists his client in making progress toward their goals. Kennedy is fluent in American Sign Language (ASL).
Kennedy joined Dr. Parisi & Associates, P.C. in 2017 and works out of Dr. Parisi’s Mount Prospect office location. Kennedy enjoys spending time with his family and artwork in his free time. He is also passionate about martial arts having attained the rank of Brown Belt in Shuri-Ryu Karate. He is a Diplomat of the National Institute of Sports Division of Counselors.
