Hello. My name is Sheldon Lewin, and I am deeply honored to be joining the team of therapists at Home Psych Services P.C. and Generations Behavioral Healthcare, P.C. I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) in Illinois and Kentucky. I completed my Master of Social Work degree (M.S.W.) from Loyola University of Chicago and my Master of Business Administration degree (M.B.A.) from North Park University of Chicago. I have over 25 years of experience working with individuals, groups, and families in a variety of settings including outpatient mental health clinics, hospitals, healthcare systems, hospice care, and private organizations. My work is informed by my own personal life experience with mental health challenges and my goal is always to provide you with support and guidance during difficult times and on your healing journey.
My professional career includes clinical positions in renowned healthcare organizations including Northwestern Memorial Hospital and Joint Commission in Chicago, Kaiser Permanente in California and Mount Sinai Health System In New York City. I have extensive experience working with multi-cultural and diverse populations providing individual, family, and group therapy, case management and crisis intervention. Throughout my career, I have always advocated for and championed the rights of the uninsured, underinsured and low-income clients to receive the same high-quality behavioral healthcare as those clients with access to good insurance or financial means.
Your mental health — Your psychological, emotional, and social well-being — has an impact on every aspect of your life. Positive mental health essentially allows you to effectively deal with life’s everyday challenges. My therapy style is tailored to the needs of an individual and my approach is holistic, spiritual, and integrative. I provide expert psychotherapy services for a wide array of problems including depression, anxiety, adjustment issues, co-morbid psychiatric illness, addiction, coping with chronic illness, end-of-life issues, child and adolescent mental health, executive coaching and work stress, and marriage and family problems. Some of my areas of specialization include grief counseling, life transitions, treatment of mental health conditions such as depression and anxiety, workplace issues, financial stress and money worries, addiction, relationship issues, obsessive thoughts and actions, sexuality and sexual identity issues, post-traumatic stress disorder and eating disorders. I am comfortable working with children, adolescents, adults and seniors and offer individual, family, and couples’ counseling.
I am genuinely interested in healing human pain and suffering. I want you to live your best life. It takes courage to change behaviors and thoughts you’ve lived with for a lifetime, but you can heal. Therapy does work and psychological treatments are backed by science; however, it takes repeated efforts and practice to change. We will work together, and my job is to walk beside you to help you move yourself toward your goals and cultivate healthier thought patterns and behaviors.
I was born and raised in Chicago. I am married over 40 years to my British wife. I enjoy reading and traveling. I am currently studying conversational Spanish and plan to continue my piano lessons. I served on several non-profit boards including the Alzheimer’s Association, Meals on Wheels, Holocaust Memorial Museum and the ALS Association.
